Hamas, Fatah Leaders Meet in Gaza
06/02/2010 23:36:00
A senior member of the Palestinian movement Fatah is meeting leaders of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

It is the first time the two groups have met in Gaza since Hamas took control there in 2007.

Fatah, led by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, was forced out of the territory by Hamas gunmen shortly after Hamas' election win.

Fatah official Nabil Shaath is known for his role as chief negotiator in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Egypt has been mediating talks between the two factions, but no reconciliation deal has been agreed.

On Thursday Shaath met Ismail Hanyia the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority until the fall out between the two groups.
