Indian Multi-product Business Delegation Visits Great Jamahiriya

In light of excellent and very cordial relations between Libya and India, an Indian Multi-product Business delegation with the assistance and on invitation from Libyan Businessmen Council (LBC), General Union Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Tripoli Chamber of Commerce & Industry visited Libya from March 6-10, 2010.

The visit of the delegation to Libya was facilitated by the Embassy of India and Libyan Chambers of Commerce & Industry and Businessmen council in major cities.

19 member business delegation led by Mr. J.K. Jain, Chairman (Northern Region) of Federation of Indian Export Organizations, popularly known as FIEO had varied business interests and discussed business opportunities and potential joint ventures between Libyan and Indian companies at Tripoli, Misurata and Benghazi.

FIEO set up by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, in 1965 is the apex body of all export promotion organizations in India.

Both Tripoli Chamber of Commerce & Industry and LBC organized interactive meetings for the delegation at their respective conference halls in Tripoli.

The FIEO delegation was addressed by Ms. Manimekalai, Ambassador of India, Mr. Mohamed D. El Fezzani, member of the Board of Directors and Dr. Milud Suri Alwehishi, manger of economic department and chairman of the committee, General Union Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Mr. J.K. Jain, Chairman (Northern Region),FIEO.

Ambassador of India, Ms. Manimekalai in her opening address said that India - Libya relations are extremely cordial and expanding in all sectors including the commercial and economic sectors and visit of FIEO's delegation to Libya was one important step in further enhancing the economic and trade relations between India and Libya.

Mr. Mohamed D. El Fezzani, member of the Board of Directors welcomed the delegation and said that big potential exist to further enhance economic ties between Libya and India.

Both sides agreed to exchange such more business delegations. The inaugural session was followed by question and answer session. Later, delegation held one to one business meetings with their Libyan counterparts.

A Luncheon was also hosted for the delegation by the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce & Industry after the meeting.

Similarly, Libyan Businessmen Council (LBC) also organized a meeting for the delegation at its conference hall in Tripoli and invited Libyan businessmen to meet the delegation. Mr. Salem Al Abyad, member of the Board of Directors, LBC and Mrs Fardia Mizran Deputy Executive Manager and Head of Administrative Affairs, LBC welcomed and addressed the delegation.

Misurata chambers of Commerce & Industry and Benghazi Chamber of Commerce& Industry organized similar meetings at Misurata and Benghazi respectively.
