Bayern star Gravenberch steps up against Nagelsmann

Ryan Gravenberch was seen as a great hope for FC Bayern last summer. Now the Dutchman follows ex-coach Julian Nagelsmann. Gravenberch is extremely dissatisfied with his time under the former Munich coach.

Last summer, ex-FCB coach Julian Nagelsmann really got into raptures when he spoke about Ryan Gravenberch, who was new at the time. The Dutchman is a “very fine footballer”, he has “incredible coordination” and made an “outstanding impression” in the preparation.

FC Bayern: Ryan Gravenberch follows ex-coach Julian Nagelsmann

Gravenberch was able to buy relatively little of this praise in the months that followed. The 21-year-old made 24 Bundesliga appearances and six Champions League appearances this season, but was mostly only a substitute. In September and October there was even a phase in which Nagelsmann let the Dutchman stew on the bench for 90 minutes in several games.

Gravenberch was very disappointed about this fact, as he revealed in an interview with the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: ” I thought, Seriously, what is this? I expected to get more chances and minutes of play than I actually got. “

Gravenberch can understand that Nagelsmann had to make some difficult decisions because of the great competition in midfield, but due to his positive start, he would have liked more playing time: ” I had done very good preparation and thought I deserved it,” said the 21-year-old.

Ryan Gravenberch: His situation improved under Thomas Tuchel

After the arrival of coach Thomas Tuchel, his situation with the record champions improved a little: “In the last two months I have played more. That gave me a good feeling,” says Gravenberch. This is how the midfielder stood, for example on the last day of the game, at the season finale in Cologne, in the starting line-up.

How things will continue with Gravenberch at FCB in the summer is open. Rumors have persisted for months that the youngster wants to leave the club. According to reports, Liverpool FC is enticing the midfielder. The Reds were already on Gravenberch in the summer of 2022.
