Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau surprisingly announced his marriage on Instagram. He and his wife Sophie were married for 18 years.

After 18 years of marriage, Justin Trudeau and his estranged wife, Sophie Grégoire, are now over. The Prime Minister of Canada announced on Instagram: “Sophie and I would like to announce that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have decided to separate. We remain a family with great love and respect for one another,” he said in his post. The politician also asked to respect his family’s privacy.

Trudeau and Grégoire have known each other since childhood: she was a classmate of Trudeau’s brother Michel. The couple have three children, two sons and a daughter.
