DeSantis breaks with Trump: “Of course he lost!”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis distanced himself from Donald Trump’s claim that he won the 2020 presidential election. During an interview with NBC News, DeSantis made it clear that Trump lost the election and that Joe Biden is the incumbent president. Although DeSantis acknowledged that there were some issues with the 2020 election, he stressed that saying the election was stolen is not correct.

According to NBC News, DeSantis also criticized Trump’s support for the CARES Act, a stimulus plan that responded to the Covid-19 pandemic. Part of this program helped states with election administration and facilitated absentee voting. DeSantis pointed out that by taking this action, Trump indirectly set the stage for his own loss by handing the government to Dr. Anthony Fauci transferred.

Trump’s legal troubles dangerous for the party

Regarding Donald Trump’s ongoing legal problems, DeSantis expressed caution. He stressed to NBC News that it’s risky for Republicans to focus too much on Trump. Instead of focusing on Trump’s impeachments, Republicans should focus on Joe Biden’s policies and their fallout if they want to win the next election.

In addition to his statements about the election, DeSantis also commented on the new educational standards in Florida. In particular, he sought to clarify his position on a controversial rule that said students should be informed that enslaved people were developing “skills” that could be used for their personal gain.
