Fashion icon Iris Apfel is 102 years old. The young at heart New Yorker shows up on Instagram with a glass of red wine – and toasts to her age.
Her extravagant fashion and eye-catching round glasses made businesswoman and interior designer Iris Apfel a true fashion icon, and the New Yorker also has almost three million fans on social media. Hard to believe: Today, August 29, Apfel is celebrating its 102nd birthday. On her Instagram account she shows herself young at heart and toasts her followers with a glass of red wine.
“A red wine toast for me and you. Sleep again until 102,” writes Apfel to the photo, which shows her stylishly as usual with numerous colorful necklaces, large bracelets, green eye shadow and bright red lipstick. She holds up a glass of red wine. To date, she has collected around 110,000 likes and 3,000 “Happy Birthday” comments.
Her husband also reached the 100-year mark
Apple was born in Queens, New York, in 1921. After studying art history, she worked as an editor for Women’s Wear Daily and as an interior designer. In 1948 she married Carl Apfel (1914-2015), to whom she was married until his death. He also turned 100. The two founded a textile company together and ran it until 1992.
She became known through numerous appearances on television and on the Internet as well as through the documentary “Iris” from 2014. In 2019, at the age of 79, she signed a contract as a model with the agency IMG, which also includes Kate Moss (49) and Gigi Hadid (28) are under contract.
