FC Bayern: Manuel Neuer has to be patient – no comeback against Mainz

Ten months after his serious knee injury, Manuel Neuer is making great progress. The Bayern doctors are said to have already given the goalkeeper the green light to return. However, Thomas Tuchel rules out Neuer celebrating his comeback against Mainz on Saturday.

Manuel Neuer has been taking part in regular team training for almost two weeks and has made a good impression. Recently there were reports that the FCB doctors had given the “green light” for a return. However, Neuer will not return to the Munich goal tomorrow evening in the Bundesliga game against 1. FSV Mainz 05: “Manuel is also back in training. This is sensational news. We are very proud of him. Nevertheless, we decided together with him that Ulreich would also be in goal in the Champions League against Istanbul,” he explained at the pre-match PK.

“Despite all the euphoria, we don’t want to get hectic”

According to Tuchel, Bayern don’t want to rush anything when it comes to Neuer’s comeback: “He’s training extremely well and is completely free. We can’t offer him what he would miss now: training with the central defenders, a test match. We have to improvise. Despite all the euphoria, we don’t want to get hectic.”

In view of the Bayern coach’s statements, Neuer will not celebrate his return to the Bayern goal until October 28th at the earliest in the home game against SV Darmstadt 98.
