Bad news for Lithuanian football. Former national player Karolis Chvedukas has passed away – at the age of only 32. The cause of death is still unclear.
Karolis Chvedukas: Former Lithuania international is dead
Lithuania plays today in the European Championship qualifier in Hungary. The news was shared with the team the day before. The police have started the investigation and are investigating the background. This is reported by the Lithuanian media.
Chvedukas had no club between January 2022 and March 2023. Then, three months ago, the midfielder moved to Lithuanian club Marijampole City. He played his only game for the club at the end of May.
Chvedukas has long been an integral part of the Lithuanian national team. He made 20 appearances in total, his last in June 2019 in a 4-1 loss to Serbia.
Former teams commemorate Karolis Chvedukas
Marijampole City wrote on Instagram: “On Monday we received tragic news: Karolis Chvedukas (1991-2023), a former member of the Lithuanian national team and our team’s football player, left unexpectedly. We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of K. Chvedukas.”
Chvedukas became Irish champions with Dundalk FC in 2018. The team also paid tribute to their ex-player: “Everyone at Dundalk FC was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the death of former midfielder Karolis Chvedukas.”
