General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi reports that the Ukrainian offensive in the south is progressing according to plan and that the troops are advancing towards the Sea of Azov as planned. Their strategic goal is to cut a land connection that links Russian positions in the south and east. Robotyne, a village that is the focus of the offensive, is among a group of villages that Ukraine intends to secure, according to “The Telegraph“. Recently, Russian President Putin repeatedly described the Ukrainian offensive as a failure.
Avdiivka continues to be under fire
The city of Avdiivka has recently come under heavy Russian attacks. However, Oleksandr Shtupun, spokesman for the southern troops, said that the shelling in the area around this city had eased. This drop in shelling was particularly notable given that a former adviser to Ukraine’s president had described Kiev’s previously stalled counteroffensive as a “disaster,” according to The Telegraph. Shtupun added that troops are preparing for various developments in the affected region.
The Ukrainian counteroffensive was launched in June to drive out Russian troops that had occupied large parts of the east and south of the country, according to The Telegraph. The attack on the eastern Ukrainian city was one of Russia’s few major attacks since the start of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.
