Kupjansk in danger: Ukrainian authorities call for evacuation

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported successful countermeasures against Russian advances in the east of the country. As the spokesman for the General Staff Andriy Kovalyov announced on Wednesday, more than 30 clashes occurred in the course of one day. He particularly emphasized the repulsion of Russian movements near Synkivka, a village about ten kilometers from Kupyansk in the Kharkiv Oblast, which was recaptured from the Ukrainians last year. He also reported on Russian attacks near Bakhmut in Donetsk region.

Furthermore, Kovalyov informed about ongoing offensive actions of the Ukrainian armed forces in the regions of Zaporizhia and Donetsk, but without giving details of territorial successes.

As attacks continued in the region, Ukrainian authorities called on the people of Kupyansk to take children and people with disabilities to safety. According to CNN, there has recently been a massive spike in Russian attacks in the area. Reports indicate that Russian shells hit a nearby village near Kupyansk, killing at least three civilians and injuring nine others. It should be noted that this region was recaptured by Ukrainian forces last year.
