NBA legend Paul Pierce is being sued by JP Morgan Chase Bank for missing payments on a 2019 Range Rover. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on October 18, 2023, alleges that Pierce owes the bank $91,459.55 in unpaid principal and interest.
NBA star Paul Pierce sued for missing leasing payments
According to the lawsuit, Pierce signed a lease for the Range Rover in December 2021. He agreed to make monthly payments of $3,445.28. However, Pierce reportedly stopped payments in January 2022.
The lawsuit alleges that Pierce’s bank demanded that Pierce return the Range Rover, but Pierce refused to release the vehicle. While Pierce has not yet commented on the lawsuit, the bank is now demanding a judgment against the NBA star for the unpaid principal, interest, legal fees and court costs.
Pierce earned 200 million – but was still often in financial difficulties
The case isn’t the first time Pierce has been in financial trouble. In 2014, the ex-Celtics star was sued by TD Bank for failing to repay a $1.4 million loan. Pierce ultimately settled the lawsuit for an undisclosed sum.
It is unclear why the former world-class player fell behind on his car payments. During his NBA career, Pierce earned a total of more than $200 million. However, the 46-year-old is also known for his extravagant lifestyle and for spending his money lavishly.
