Willy Sagnol played at FC Bayern from 2000 to 2009, and the Frenchman is now the coach of the Georgian national team. His star player there: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, affectionately called “Kvaradona” by SSC Napoli fans. There is no greater honor at Napoli than being named after club icon Diego Maradona.
According to Sagnol, the German record champions should deal with the offensive left winger. The Italian newspaper “Mattino Di Napoli” quoted Sagnol: “Khvicha Kvaratskhelia already plays for a top club in Naples, but there are football giants like Real Madrid, FC Bayern or FC Barcelona who are interested in him.”
Kvaratskhelia hits Naples straight away – and could be expensive
Kvaratskhelia moved to Naples from Georgian first division club Dinamo Batumi in the summer of 2022 for 13.3 million euros. He immediately played a decisive role in the club’s long-awaited championship and its entry into the Champions League quarter-finals last season. The 22-year-old had 31 points scorer in 43 games.
His contract in Naples runs until 2027, so a transfer would certainly not be cheap. Club boss Aurelio De Laurentiis is a tough negotiator and doesn’t like to give up top performers. He recently proved this with the sought-after top striker Victor Osimhen, who was ultimately not allowed to move despite the interest of many top clubs.
Still, Sagnol said, referring to Kvaratskhelia: “It’s a dream for all players to play for these teams — all footballers hope to wear such an important jersey and win big titles.”
How true Sagnol’s statements are and whether Bayern will ultimately make a move on the winger will become clear in the coming weeks and months.
