Patrick Dempsey is the new “Sexiest Man Alive 2023,” as “People” magazine announced last night. Finally! It follows some rather controversial decisions.
“People” magazine has now named an actor “Sexiest Man Alive” who has unofficially held this title for a long time: Patrick Dempsey (57). The US magazine announced this decision that night. It’s been nearly two decades since Patrick Dempsey appeared on screen as neurosurgeon Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. Thanks to this role, he became a heartthrob from 2005 to 2015 – from 2020 to 2021 there was even a little treat for the fans. Now the “Ferrari” star can officially call himself the “man with the most sex appeal” of the year.
Patrick Dempsey: “Of course my ego takes a little leap”
“I’m glad it’s happening at this time in my life,” the 57-year-old from Maine says of the award in the cover story. “It’s nice to get the recognition, and of course my ego takes a little leap, but it also gives me the platform to use it for something positive.” What matters most to him is the “Dempsey Center,” which he in honor of his late mother to support cancer patients and their families.
His other passions include family life with his wife Jillian (57), a make-up artist and founder of her own cosmetics line, and their children Talula (21) and the 16-year-old twins Sullivan and Darby, as well as car racing.
So what was going through his mind when he heard the news? “I was completely shocked and then had to laugh: It’s a joke, right? “I was always the bridesmaid,” he remembers with a laugh, probably also referring to his romcom hits such as “Sweet Home Alabama – Love in a Detour” (2002), “In Love with the Bride” (2008) or “Bridget Jones’ Baby” (2016). “I had completely forgotten about it and never thought about getting into this position. So my ego is fine,” he adds.
The award apparently has little impact on his children, as he says: “They just make fun of me, tease me about it and constantly find new reasons why I shouldn’t be the one – but that’s good, because they stick me young,” said Dempsey.

Last year, Mavel hero Chris Evans (42) received the award. His predecessor in the sexiness executive chair was also a Marvel star, but rather controversial: US actor Paul Rudd (54).
