Argentinian football coach Mauricio Pochettino has signed a three-year contract with Chelsea, according to British media. Accordingly, the 51-year-old should start his job at Stamford Bridge next week and stay until the summer of 2026. This was reported by the newspapers “Guardian” and “Telegraph” on Sunday, among others. The official presentation of Pochettino is expected in the coming days.
Pochettino succeeds caretaker manager Lampard at Chelsea
The Blues have been in search of a permanent successor since Coach Graham Potter split last month. First, ex-coach Frank Lampard took over the club as interim coach. The hapless Lampard was the third Chelsea coach in the 2022/23 season after the new owners around US entrepreneur Todd Boehly initially put Thomas Tuchel on leave. After a disastrous season, Chelsea are absent from European competition next season.
Pochettino, who coached Southampton FC and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, has been unemployed since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer. He was considered the favorite to take over as London manager after Chelsea held unsuccessful talks with ex-Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann and former Barcelona and Spain boss Luis Enrique.
