Selena Gomez is currently taking a break from Instagram and explained in a story why she is withdrawing from the platform for the time being.
Selena Gomez (31) let her over 430 million followers know in an Instagram story that she is taking a break from the platform – apparently because of the conflict in the Middle East.
“I’ve taken a break from social media because it breaks my heart to see all the horror, hatred, violence and terror going on in the world,” Gomez writes. The killing and torturing of people and “any act of hatred against a particular group” are “horrible”.
Selena Gomez: “We have to protect everyone”
“We must protect all people – especially children – and stop the violence once and for all,” she continues. Gomez is sorry “if my words are never enough for everyone (…). I can’t stand by and watch innocent people get hurt. That’s what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t do that.” Gomez says goodbye with the words: “With love, Selena.”
Numerous US stars have commented on the war in the Middle East in recent weeks. 55 well-known artists from the entertainment industry wrote an open letter to US President Joe Biden (80). Among others, Joaquin Phoenix (49), Mahershala Ali (49), Cate Blanchett (54) and Kristen Stewart (33) called on the President to work towards a ceasefire. Many other celebrities, including Bradley Cooper (48), Katy Perry (39) and Justin Timberlake (42), later signed another letter thanking Biden for his leadership in the war between Israel and the terrorist militia Hamas. They also asked him to continue to focus on the hostages in Gaza.
