The girl herself would probably never have been able to remember her own name. And now she doesn’t have to do that anymore. Because Sofia Palazuelo (31) and her husband Fernando Fitz-James Stuart (33), the Duchess and Duke of Huéscar, have to change the name of their daughter, who was born on January 10, 2023. The girl was baptized on October 7th, but the authorities are now causing trouble because of state regulations.

More precisely, the name of the child must be shortened, which was originally: Sofía Fernanda Dolores Cayetana Teresa Ángela de la Cruz Micaela del Santísimo Sacramento del Perpetuo Socorro de la Santísima Trinidad y de Todos Los Santos. Yes, the name is really a bit long. As dailymail.co.uk reports, such a name cannot be entered into the official register – it must either be shortened to a compound name with a hyphen or to two separate names in order to be accepted by the registry office.

“The name given to the child is indicated in the registration, but no more than one compound name and no more than two simple names may be entered,” says the second article of the law on first and last names and their order in the Official Gazette of the State, the Official State Gazette. Some of little Sofía’s names have to be deleted. The multitude of names is a tribute to the woman who died in 2014 Duchess of Alba (†88), due to other family members and religious backgrounds.
The first daughter’s name is comparatively short
Also the first-born daughter of the ducal couple , also baptized in the parish of San Román in 2021, has a long and pregnant name: María del Rosario Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y Silva. The little one was born on September 8, 2020. Since October 6, 2018 Fernando & Sofia of Huéscar married they had previously been a couple for five years.
