Steven Spielberg supports Hollywood strike with millions in donations

Spielberg is known as a director, film producer and screenwriter, including “Schindler’s List” and “West Side Story”.

With their “generosity,” the couple helped so many employees in the film and television industry during the walkout, the nonprofit organization “Entertainment Community Fund” and a foundation of the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA said on Monday (local time). According to US media reports, the director and actress have donated $1.5 million since the strike began in May.

Other major donors to union emergency aid programs in recent months have included celebrities such as Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Hugh Jackman, Dwayne Johnson, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lopez and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

There is no sign of the strike ending

The Writers Guild’s more than 11,000 screenwriters have been on strike since early May. In mid-July, around 16,000 actors from the acting union SAG-AFTRA joined the writers. Among other things, they demand better remuneration and rules for the use of artificial intelligence. There are no signs that the strike will end soon.
