It started as a joke, now it could actually become reality: the film “Barbenheimer” is to be made. This was reported by the industry portal “Hollywood Reporter”. A low-budget comedy is planned to be directed by the American Charles Band, the portal reported.

“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” were this year’s box office hits – now a director wants to turn the duel between the two films into a strange project.

Berlin. It started as a joke, now it could actually become reality: the film “Barbenheimer” is to be made. This was reported by the industry portal “Hollywood Reporter”. A low-budget comedy is planned to be directed by the American Charles Band, the portal reported.

The neologism “Barbenheimer” is a combination of the two cinema hits “Barbie” by Greta Gerwig and “Oppenheimer” by Christopher Nolan. The eagerly awaited films were released in cinemas on the same day in July this year – which led internet users to make numerous jokes about the duel between the two very unequal films under the neologism “Barbenheimer”.

The production company AMP International confirmed on Platform X that it was involved in the “Barbenheimer” project. Band told The Hollywood Reporter that the film would be about a scientist puppet who tries to wipe out humanity with a nuclear bomb. “It’s so silly,” Band said. “But it seems like every other film is dark and depressing, and I think: God, we need some humor in 2024.” Filming is scheduled to start next year.
