Weather now dictates the course of the front: fighting in Ukraine is increasingly easing

While the military operations at Andriivka continue despite the adverse weather conditions, the ISW signals a general impairment of the fighting on both sides.

In the southwestern area of Bakhmut, Ukrainian forces have made some successful advances despite adverse weather conditions, while the fighting in the area of Andriyivka and Kurdjumivka continues to be intensive, both the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and Russian sources reported. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that Ukrainian and Russian sources are unanimous in reporting that military operations are being disrupted by the current bad weather.

Weather hinders flight operations

According to ISW, Russian military bloggers had indicated that the unfavorable weather conditions, especially in the directions of Bakhmut and Zaporizhzhia, would influence both Ukrainian offensive operations and Russian air reconnaissance measures. In addition, Captain Ilya Jevlash, spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasized that drone and air operations in particular could suffer from the current weather conditions, although he made it clear that this would not stop Ukraine’s counteroffensive. The exact influences of weather conditions on military operations and how the forces involved react to them are explained in detail by the ISW.
