Weidenfeller shoots against Tuchel and gives him advice

Coach Thomas Tuchel from FC Bayern has to look after his aborted interview after the 4-0 win in Dortmund received a lot of criticism last Saturday. Now a former player of Tuchel is also in touch. Roman Weidenfeller, who was trained as a BVB keeper by Tuchel in Dortmund between 2015 and 2017, sharply criticized his former coach on Sky.

“I believe that Thomas Tuchel is incapable of criticism. He reacts very sensitively, as we experienced in Dortmund when players disagreed with him or when the club suggested to him that Mario Götzeand he really wanted Schürrle,” Weidenfeller reported: “There was always friction.”

Weidenfeller gives Tuchel some advice

The former goalkeeper, who was in the German squad for the 2014 World Cup triumph, also advised Tuchel that it was important to “look at the topic again afterwards with a certain distance.”

After his team’s victory at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, Tuchel broke off the interview on Sky and then attacked Hamann and Matthäus again at the press conference. “Should I quote Didi and Lothar?” said Tuchel ironically: “For a team without further development and with a bad internal relationship between players and coach, it looked okay today, I would say. You can find out the rest directly from the experts!”

During his tenure in Dortmund from 2015 to 2017, Tuchel repeatedly offended those in charge. In particular, the bosses’ handling of the bomb attack on the Dortmund team bus in 2017 was a major point of contention with former Dortmund managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke.
